This session presents the most recent book by the ICR team and Sámi Allaskuvla about the history of the Sámi Indigenous knowledge documentation. We’ll talk about how the Sámi were perceived by the travellers and researchers through centuries, how Indigenous knowledge survived millennia and is still relevant, and why it is vital to have proper translation (both in the 18th century and in the age of AI).
